About Fog City Cattery

Background
Fog City is a hobby cattery, owned by Tina Dodge and registered with TICA, CFA, CFF and ACA. We show our Maine Coon Cats in TICA and CFF. After years of attending cat shows, in 1997, we decided to show our beautiful household pet, Moses. Then, we showed a very handsome Maine Coon Cat Alter, Deimos, and got hooked! In 1998, we established our cattery in San Francisco, and are now located in Guilford, Connecticut.

CATTERY OF EXCELLENCE: The cattery is inspected annually by our Veterinarian. We have received TICA's perfect score that qualifies us as a "Cattery of Excellence." In addition, we voluntarily comply with TICA's Responsible Breeder Program.

AFFILIATIONS: Tina is currently serving on the Maine Coon Cat Breed Committee in TICA. Tina is the former President of the Fog City Cat Club in California, and currently a member of the Americats Cat Club in New England, and a member of UMCCA (United Maine Coon Cat Assoc.).

WORK: In 2004, Tina left the corporate world to operate a full spectrum pet care business under the name For The Love of Paws. Tina is also certified in cat and dog First Aid & CPR.

FAME: Our cats have been professionally photographed and their pictures have been used by Petco, Hallmark and various cat food manufacturers. Our cats have also been featured with Marc Marone on the Martha Stewart Living TV Show. Our handsome Buster was photographed for Consumer Reports magazine.

A Hobby Business
Our cattery is an expensive and serious hobby, not a "for profit" business. The price we charge for our kittens covers Vet expenses, genetic screenings, premium foods, supplies, cattery upkeep and ongoing educational expenses (such as books and seminars). Showing is also expensive but it's how we earn titles for our cats and have them evaluated against current standards. It is important to stay in close contact with the Maine Coon Cat breeding community.

Tina's other hobbies include trail walks with Hendrix (a pedigreed Black Lab) and Amber (a retired racing Greyhound), and gardening. Another garden photo.

Cattery Goals
Our goal is to contribute to the breed by raising healthy, happy kittens. We strive for kittens that are true to the TICA Maine Coon Cat breed standard. Our kittens and cats are raised in our home. Our felines receive excellent vet care, and eat a premium quality cat food.

Philosophy - Our breeding cats are tested/screened for diseases such as FIV, FeLV, SMA, heart disease, and hip dysplasia. Our males are screened for PKD (kidney disease). We are striving to bring outcrossed blood lines into our program to significantly decrease the percent of line breeding and inbreeding. For information about the significance of using new and less common Maine Coon Cat blood lines, please visit the Maine Coon Heritage web site. Not all Maine Coon breeders go to this extent of researching, selecting and testing various blood lines. We work with several Maine Coon Cat breeders around the world who have similar breeding philosophies. I guess you can say we breed for the long term strength of the breed in general, and not just for our own immediate gratification.
